Maarten Vanbelle and Dries Vens

Located in Ghent, Belgium, architects Maarten Vanbelle and Dries Vens worked within the confines of an existing home to create a continually surprising living space. Initially intending to construct three homes on the lot, the architects changed their plans due to zoning restrictions, eventually developing a visually distinct structure within the home itself. The layout revolves around the kitchen, distinguished by its raised, multi-storied, wood-clad enclosure. Ultimately, the interior seems to speak several languages; Embracing both a sense of minimalism and of eclecticism, somehow avoiding a stylistic collision.
